Attach the Back Vinyl Pocket
We will need:For this step we will need the prepared quilted body of the organizer, the bound back vinyl pocket made in Post #11, and the two 1¼” x 8” binding strips.
We will also use these tools:
- Sewing machine with ¼" foot
- Wonder Clips
- Stiletto/pressing tool
- Thread snips/scissors
Objectives:Attach the prepared vinyl pocket to the back of the organizer using the binding strips on each side to cover the raw edges and give a finished look to the pocket.
Let's get started:A. Attach the back vinyl pocket to main fabric side of body of organizer.
1. Position the prepared back vinyl pocket on top of the strap between the lines marked 4” and 9” from the end. As shown in the picture below, align the bottom raw edge of the pocket along the bottom raw edge of the organizer. Pin or clip in place. (Wonder Clips work well to hold the layers together.)
TIP: The top bound edge of the pocket will be 1" in from the raw edge of the organizer. Use a ruler to make sure that it is well-aligned.
2. Attach bindings to left and right sides of front of pocket.
a. With right sides out, fold each vinyl pocket binding strip in half lengthwise.
b. Align one strip on the right side of the bound vinyl pocket, positioning the long raw edges of binding strip along the right side of the vinyl pocket and the short raw edges of the binding strip along the raw edges of the sides of the organizer. TIP: The binding will extend 1” beyond the top (bound) edge of the vinyl pocket on each side. Secure in place with Wonder Clips at each end.
d. Fold the binding over onto the organizer and stitch it to the organizer along the folded edge of the binding. TIP: A stiletto helps to hold the binding in place as you stitch.
3. Stitch the vinyl pocket in place along the bottom edge, sewing 1/8" from the edge.
